The black hole itself is established as being special firstly through the use of the low angle shot looking up through the paper at the man. It is important to establish a character that the audience know quickly because of the length of the films: it is vital that the audience is focused on the plot rather than character development. Stock characters are extremely useful in short films because they help to create a character quickly that an audience can understand as they can usually either relate to them or have come across a similar type of character before. ![]() For example, he portrays the classic bored, middle class, middle aged, office worker who hates his job. The character could be recognised as a stock character due to his conformity to general stock stereotypes. This is indicated through his lack of expression, his bad posture to show as if he is tired, his big sigh, and furrowed brows. The light in the office is dull and gloomy, and the colours are dark, which reflects his expression and behaviour. The moments from then leading up to this establishing shot show the office worker struggling and getting frustrated with the photocopier. ![]()
